Free Tansy Disposal Days

Tansy ragwort is invasive and will establish itself readily in disturbed areas. It is toxic and can be lethal to livestock. The toxic properties remain when the plant is cut and dried in hay, where it is difficult for animals to avoid eating it. The toxins accumulate in an animal’s body, causing irreversible liver damage and poor health or death. The toxic properties may also be a threat to humans, because honey or milk can be contaminated if bees or goats utilize tansy ragwort plants. All parts of the plant are poisonous, but flowers have the highest concentration of toxins. Tansy ragwort is a Class B Noxious Weed. Control is required county-wide.

We have many county residents that choose not to utilize chemical herbicide and have been manually removing this invasive weed from their properties. We don't want that decision to come with a hefty dumping fee and have decided to organize 2 Free Tansy Disposal events that will span the county over the course of 2 consecutive days. The first event is June 17th and 18th. We understand the hardship created by flowering tansy's ability to go to seed even after being pulled and want to offset that cost.

We will only accept bagged tansy at these events. Please be a good steward and bag your tansy before taking it off your property.

Please begin bagging your pulled tansy ragwort and meet us on June 17th or 18th at the following times and locations:
