State Extends Timeline for Retail Food Code Revision Input

Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the Washington State Board of Health (BOH) has extended the deadline for additional public input into changes to the state’s Retail Food Code (WAC 246-215). Public comment will now be accepted until September 29, 2020.

BOH is required by law to update the Retail Food Code periodically to ensure it addresses current foodborne illness risks and best methods of prevention. These are the rules that apply to all food-permitted establishments in Washington State, including restaurants, delis, schools, and even food vendors at fairs and festivals.

Information about this process, proposed changes, and how you can provide input are online at: https://www.doh.wa.gov/CommunityandEnvironment/Food/FoodWorkerandIndustry/FoodSafety Rules/FoodCodeRuleRevision.
