Civil Division

The Civil Division of the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office is open to serve the public Monday through Friday, except Holidays, 8:00am-5:00pm. We are located in the Law and Justice Center at 345 W. Main Street, Chehalis, WA. Papers for service are brought into the Sheriff’s Office by courier delivery, US Mail, the filing attorney, or the plaintiff/petitioner.

Fees for service are charged based on RCW 36.28.040. Service is $20-$25 based on type of papers and the number of persons being served. Return of service is $10, and mileage is determined by the amount of miles to and from the courthouse for each attempt made at 50 cents per mile. A $5 notary fee is charged on all out of state court papers unless we are notified at the time of process that no notary is needed.

For further questions about civil process, please call (360) 748-9286 and ask for the Civil Division. Information on the Landlord-Tenant Laws are also available by contacting the Civil Division or at the Attorney General of Washington Consumer Protection Division's web site which also has other consumer protection information.
