Veterans' Relief Fund

If you're a Veteran or a Veteran's spouse, you may be eligible for assistance from the Veterans' Relief Fund for:

  • Funeral expenses
  • Utilities*
  • Rent*

*Applications for assistance with rent and/or utilities will not be accepted until late fall.

To apply for veterans' services, please complete an application and gather all of the acceptable documentation

  • DD214 (Under honorable discharges only)
  • Washington State Driver's License or Picture ID
  • Proof of Washington residence for one year
  • Spouse's ID or Marriage Certificate
  • Birth certificate for all dependents
  • Proof of income (check stub or bank statement) OR Lack of income (if you have no income you will need to prove it, example: income tax return/bank statement). Please see income eligibility table below.
  • Original bill to be paid for utilities
  • Original bill for funeral expenses
  • Rent - must have a W-9 (provided by the County upon request) and a copy of the rental agreement, signed by the landlord. A relative of the veteran does not qualify as a bona fide landlord.

Each Veteran that qualifies could receive up to $300 for rent or utilities. And, with acceptable documentation, $300 for burial or cremation costs will be approved for qualifying Veteran/dependent.

You may also come to the 3rd floor of the Lewis County Health Department and ask for Susan. You can obtain an application or turn in a completed application. The Health Department is located at 360 NW North Street, Chehalis WA 98532.

Applications will be accepted on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Fridays from 8am to 5pm (office closed between 12:30-1:30pm). All applications are reviewed and determination is made on a case by case basis.

Income Eligibility Table

The following table is what is used to determine if you qualify; if you do not fall within these guidelines, you will not be eligible for the program.

  • 1 Member Household = less than $1,354 per month or $16,245 per year.
  • 2 Member Household = less than $1,821 per month or $21,855 per year.
  • 3 Member Household = less than $2,289 per month or $27,465 per year.
  • 4 Member Household = less than $2,756 per month or $33,075 per year.
  • 5 Member Household = less than $3,224 per month or $38,685per year.
