Hazardous Materials Accepted at the East Lewis County Transfer Station

Businesses may not drop off hazardous materials.

The following hazardous materials are accepted during normal operating hours.  Tell scale attendant you have hazardous materials to drop off and you will be directed to the appropriate location.

  • Used motor oil (includes engine oil, transmission fluid, hydraulic fluid, power steering fluid, gear oil, diesel, kerosene)
  • Spent antifreeze
  • Car batteries
  • Dry Chemistry Batteries: Alkaline, Ni-Cad,NiMH, Lithium, Silver Oxide, Lead Acid
  • Propane tanks (less than 25 gallons in capacity)
  • Fluorescent lights and compact fluorescent lamps -- 15 or less are free. Charges apply for more than 15 lights. (Please pay at the scale house first. Fluorescent lights go in the hazardous waste trailer.)
  • Latex Paint
  • Oil Based paints and stains
  • Cooking oil. Vegetable oil only. Oil contaminated with animal fat is not accepted.
OTHER TYPES OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE MATERIAL RECOVERY CENTER LOCATED AT THE CENTRAL TRANSFER STATION.

The Swap Shack offers left over materials including paint for free to residents and businesses.
