What can I bring to my child who is in detention?

Parents and/or legal guardians are allowed to bring in certain items for their child while they are in custody.

Allowed:

  • Any paper-back book, must be age appropriate and is subject to approval by Detention Staff
  • Any sealed (new) chap stick
  • 4X6 photos -They must be appropriate and is subject to approval by Detention Staff

Not allowed:

  • Hard-back books
  • Magazines
  • Newspapers

Due to security purposes, no other personal items are allowed.

Who Can Visit?

Youth are allowed visitors while in custody, subject to approval from Probation staff.

Allowed:

  • Parents and/or legal guardians
  • Counselors and Ministers
  • Police officers and legal counsel may visit whenever necessary.

Not Allowed:

  • Any person under the age of 18, regardless of relation to in-custody youth.
  • Any person not approved through Probation
  • Siblings or non legal guardians

No exceptions to the above visitation policy may be made unless authorized by the Administrator or their designee.

Can I send my child a letter?

All incoming and outgoing letters must go through the US Postal Service.

Juveniles are allowed to write two (2) letters per week, unless parents provide additional stamps.

Youth can be sent appropriate photos to have in their rooms, no larger than 4x6, however, they can only have two in the room at a time.

Parents and/or guardians cannot bring in letters or any mail for youth in custody, everything must be sent by USPS.

Are you Green Hill School?

No. Green Hill School and Lewis County Juvenile Court/Detention are two completely different facilities; it is just coincidence that we are neighboring institutions.

We are the brick building in front of Green Hill School, and we are located at 1255 SW Pacific Ave, Chehalis, WA 98532.

Juvenile Court is a division of Lewis County Superior Court and is not associated with Green Hill School.

Green Hill School is a JRA (state) institution located at 375 SW 11th St, Chehalis, WA 98532.
