The Group B approval process is intended to assure that all new or expanding systems meet current standards to protect the health of the people using their water. Upon completion, an approved Group B system is properly designed for the specific number of homes or businesses it supports. What does all of this mean?
First, it means that each connection will have adequate pressure at their taps. Inadequate pressure is not only frustrating, but can lead to bacterial or chemical contamination if any cross-connections exist on the system. Second, approved systems are required to plan for financial viability. This means establishing a rate structure that will enable the system to readily replace failing equipment and make needed repairs that may otherwise put them at risk for contamination. Third, approved systems have extensively tested their water to assure that it does not pose any health threats and have established covenants to protect their well(s) into the future. Ongoing monitoring for bacteria and nitrate are also conducted to identify any changes that may occur in water quality over time.
Group B Approval packets are available from Public Services or from the 3rd floor of the Health Department. You may also print out the documents from the links below.
