This week’s return to the “rainy” season has prompted a few questions about what to do during a thunder/lightning storm. I recommend everyone take a brief minute out of your busy schedules to review the attached “Lightning” information from the National Weather Service. The refresher is particularly important for those of you attending fall sporting events that may be held with audiences in metal bleachers.
Also remember that our Pacific Northwest lightning storms are very different from the ones in the Midwest. It is not uncommon for our storms to produce only one lightning strike per event. This doesn’t always provide for a “warning” flash before the strike. And lightning can strike as far away as 10 miles from the storm!
Review what to do and what not to do during a lightning storm on the following two pages. Stay safe.
